Top 7 Neighbourhoods to Live in According to Edmonton REALTORS®️

The most desirable neighbourhoods in Edmonton tend to change as the trends change. Sometimes we see the suburbs gaining popularity; other times, we see inner-city neighbourhoods as the hot spots. It really depends on the market and the lifestyle Edmontonians desire. We consulted our buyer’s agent, Hendrik Verveer, and asked him what he considers to be Edmonton’s most popular neighbourhoods. With his tips as an Edmonton REALTOR® and a bit of research of our own, we have put together (in no particular order) 7 of the top Edmonton neighbourhoods to live in!

Laurier Heights

Overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley, Laurier Heights is one of Edmonton’s most treasured neighbourhoods. If you were to drive around the area, you would quickly notice that most properties are single-family homes. Large, lush trees are scattered generously throughout Laurier Heights, giving it a homey and established feel. Houses range anywhere from $300,000 to over $1,000,000, typically closer to or above the latter. Nearby downtown, the Edmonton River Valley, the Edmonton Valley Zoo, Laurier and Buena Vista Park, Laurier Heights is a dream location for anyone who loves to spend time outdoors exploring the trails.

Brander Gardens

Moving further southwest, Brander Gardens sits in between the Edmonton River Valley, Fort Edmonton Park, and Whitemud Drive. A healthy blend of condos, apartments, townhouses, duplexes and single-family homes offers various lifestyles for different needs. If you close your eyes and think about a picturesque, family-friendly neighbourhood you see in the movies (think: cul de sacs, trails, and suburbia), Brander Gardens might fit the vision. With properties ranging anywhere from $100,000 to $600,000, you should have no issue being able to find something that suits your wants and needs!

Secord

In the west end of Edmonton, you will find the charming and family-friendly Secord neighbourhood. Compared to some of the other communities we mention in this article, Secord is a newer development as of 2007. This neighbourhood is popular amongst young and growing families, mainly due to the amenities like walking trails, playgrounds, picnic spots, water features, and some excellent schools and daycares. Secord is situated near shopping, dining, golf courses, and more. Homes in Secord are anywhere from $100,000 to $800,000, meaning there really is something for everyone. If you’re looking to live in a suburb that offers easy access to the city and a quiet, family-friendly environment, Secord is a great place to look at Edmonton real estate.

Parkview

Another neighbourhood with tree-lined streets and stunning architecture, Parkview is a lovely place to call home. With a blend of infills and older character homes, Parkview offers an eclectic mix of different styles of homes; properties typically range from $200,000 to over $1,000,000. Parkview is close to the Edmonton River Valley, allowing residents a beautiful view of one of our city’s most desirable features. Whitemud Drive and Stony Plain Road are only a hop, skip, and jump away, making commuting around Edmonton from Parkview quite efficient. Most residents of Parkview have lived in their homes for a very long time, which is an ode to the neighbourhood itself. As an Edmonton REALTOR®, we can safely say that Parkview is a crowd favourite for a good reason!

Bonnie Doon

Situated next to the Mill Creek Ravine and overlooking the North Saskatchewan River, Bonnie Doon offers Edmontonians lovely homes at affordable prices. With real estate ranging from $100,000 to $1,000,000, you can find a mix of infills, single-family dwellings, townhomes, and duplexes. Living near gorgeous parks and trails is one of the many things residents love about living in Bonnie Doon, not to mention the easy access around the city thanks to Connors Road to the north and Whyte Ave to the south. If you are looking to live in a mature area of Edmonton that is away from the hustle and bustle of the city, Bonnie Doon might be the place for you.

Terwillegar South

Located in the southwest corner of Edmonton, Terwillegar South is one of seven neighbourhoods within Terwillegar Heights. The neighbourhood comprises primarily of single-family detached homes, but you can also find condos, apartments, and multi-family housing; homes generally range anywhere from $100,000 to $600,000. Terwillegar is popular among growing families, as it offers all the appealing aspects of suburbia at a reasonable price. Being right off the Anthony Henday, you can quickly get around the city from home!

Windsor Park

An ideal neighbourhood for anyone who loves to be in the heart of Edmonton, Windsor Park is highly desirable. Tucked between the University of Alberta and Hawrelak Park, this community is close to some of Edmonton’s best restaurants, shops, trails, parks, and schools. While Windsor Park offers a fast-paced environment, some homes are nestled into the side streets, providing a quieter, more laid-back feel. Homes typically range from $500,000 to over $1,000,000. Windsor Park is a wonderful community to move into if you plan to work anywhere near or around the Downtown or Whyte Ave region.
